Zoé Zoe is further persuasive evidence of Lithuania’s growing talent pool (see also: Mario & Vidis and Planet Mu’s Few Nolder). Just ask Maya Jane Coles, who bagged the title track of the Church EP for her recent DJ-Kicks. Mantas Stonkus aka Zoé Zoe is a 26 year old rebellious youngster, working at Klaipeda sea port, but nevertheless exporting a quality innovative sounds worldwide. This is the reality of today’s globalization and music industry. The music influences of Zoé Zoe comes from the past heroes like Shades Of Rhythm, Lfo and Drexciya to this decade innovators Martyn, Mosca, Jacques Green, Joy Orbison and Objekt to name a few.“Leaps Ep” is a second Zoé Zoe’s release after “Church Ep” on Sneaker Social Club. All five tracks are full of unexpected motive changes, which brings a certain excitement on the dancefloor or just by listening. Baseline and percussion parts are quite raw, but dynamic keybords, vocal parts and perfectly integrated breakdowns compliments the whole arrangement and makes it simply addictive. The whole EP is a one of a kind mish mash, which interpolates new and forgotten styles: from dup-stepy house to old school rave leftfield. This makes the sound of Zoé Zoe: in one hand unique and innovative, and on the other hand – known and loved in the past.
